Quiet cracking T5

Take 5 with Kimberly

Have you heard of "Quiet Cracking"?

I’m sure you’ve heard of quiet quitting, but have you come across a new trend called quiet cracking?

Quiet cracking happens when individuals feel mentally and emotionally drained by their work. It can manifest as stress, anxiety, loss of motivation, or even burnout. I recently read an article that addressed quiet cracking from an employee perspective, which made me think, what about all small business owners and entrepreneurs?

It's easy for small business owners or entrepreneurs to get caught up in the daily grind. But don’t overlook the importance of having someone to listen when you need to vent, work through an idea, or find a solution to a problem.

Many feel isolated, whether working in an office, from home, in a coffee shop, or a hybrid situation. While we might have support from friends or family, we often isolate ourselves in our business concerns due to the hustle and bustle of wearing all the hats. This can lead to “quiet cracking”, starting with a small crack that grows if not addressed.

What is needed is someone who can listen, whether to vent, discuss your challenges and stress points, or provide a fresh outside perspective. Sometimes, this can be done with a friend, but more often, it can be done with a business coach or an advisor (like me), a professional, knowledgeable, great listener, and someone with a wealth of information and resources.

You need to take care of yourself as much as—if not more than—you care for your staff and clients. We have all been on a flight and heard the instruction, “Put your oxygen mask on first.” This is excellent advice in all areas of life, as if you are depleted, you can’t fully be present for your clients, family, partner, or friends.

Time away from work is also valuable for recharging and returning with a fresh perspective. The term “work-life balance” is tossed around often, but is it real? Our attention naturally shifts toward what needs us most—an urgent work project, a personal crisis, or a new priority. This is why understanding and managing your time efficiently and effectively is key.

When you feel heard, get help thinking through problems, and receive the support you need, you gain a stable foundation for tackling challenges with minimal cracking.

If you’re quietly cracking under the pressure of doing it all, know that help is out there. Whether you need an ear, an extra set of hands for a project, or someone to help you review your time management strategies, I can help. Think of me as your repair kit for the cracks—here to help you catch your breath, regroup, and feel less overwhelmed and supported.
